Festivitas Artium Concerts

Throughout the year, Festivitas Artium organises concerts of early and Oriental music. The concert themes fit into the familiar mould that has already inspired the FA Classics and Cathedral Music concert series as well as the Morgenstern Music Lounge and the Tartu Early Music Festival.

FA Classics concert series was held during 2002-2003. The series' themes centred on early and Oriental music that in one way or the other had become classical in the music world.

The Cathedral Concerts series was organised by Festivitas Artium in Tartu from January 2000 through May 2002. The series' structure followed the conceptual idea of Tartu Early Music Festival both in its choice of music as well as in supplementing the latter by a variety of lectures shedding light on the music's broader historical background. The series motto can be summed up as ?integral academic approach to history and culture', which aptly justified Tartu as the location for the series. The purpose of the Cathedral Concerts included drawing the public's attention to the need for conservation of Tartu Cathedral ruins and the early history of the city of Tartu in general, thus enabling the city to enhance its awareness of our earlier cultural background and making it more attractive to visitors.

The Morgenstern Music Lounge concerts' programmes included early European or pre-classical music. There were both solo and ensemble concerts. The spontaneous and serene ambience in Morgenstern Hall was accentuated by the performers' comments. In addition to introducing early music to the public, Morgenstern Music Hour supplementing the Cathedral Concerts series also aims to offer opportunities to perform to professional musicians and music students active in studying this relatively little-known period of musical history. The concerts were of considerable interest to both younger listeners as well as early music lovers and presented a welcome musical interlude to everybody taking a leisurely stroll on the Toome Hill on Saturday afternoon.
